New Modular Sensory Rooms in Partnership with Sensory Technology

This collaboration will allow us to offer a comprehensive service - from concept and design, to a fast installation and ongoing aftercare and support - ensuring that every school has the opportunity to create a sensory space that’s fully tailored to their needs, offering an inclusive educational environment for all pupils.

Why sensory rooms matter

In education, particularly for children with additional learning needs (ALN), sensory rooms, sensory pods and sensory spaces offer so much more than a place of calm. They provide essential support for emotional regulation, sensory development, focus, communication skills, and even learning/engagement readiness. Sensory spaces can be used to deliver tailored, targeted interventions, therapy sessions, and effective exploratory group work, as well as a safe area to relax when a child needs it most.

A well-designed sensory room or sensory environment gives children and young people the opportunity to explore different kinds of stimuli in a way that feels manageable and safe. For some, a sensory room could be a place to retreat to as a chance to emotionally reset, and for others, it's a stimulating and engaging place where they can get curious, move and interact.

The problem with retrofitting sensory rooms

We've had a lot of conversations with school staff and education providers who once had converted classroom sensory spaces which they've now had to switch back to classrooms. Many schools are feeling the strain with capacity demands and need their classrooms back to accommodate more pupils. This unfortunately has left them without sensory provision for their pupils who need and depend on it.

Another issue we're seeing is that many schools who are looking to introduce sensory spaces for the first time are getting them retrofitted into unsuitable rooms ill-equipped to be used for effective sensory exploration or development sessions. More often than not, these rooms fail to provide a quiet enough space for children to adequately regulate or relax, located in between noisy classrooms and have poor light control for example. They aren't designed with sensory needs in mind, which significantly reduces their effectiveness and can prevent pupils from wanting to access the space too.

A purpose-built sensory room solution

By partnering with Sensory Technology, we can now offer a joined-up, end-to-end sensory room service. Instead of retrofitting an inadequate classroom or struggling for space, you can create a self-contained additional space, a purpose-built modular sensory room tailored to your school and student needs! You'll work with our expert team to plan a building which fits your outdoor space and budget. The sensory specialists at Sensory Technology will help select the most appropriate equipment for your project based on the needs and age range of your students or how you intend to use the sensory space. From interactive borealis and snowstorm tubes to immersive walls and projections, everything will be built perfectly into the space. This joined-up approach will ensure your sensory room is effective and impactful without taking away any valuable classroom space.
